Doner Shack Restaurant Review August 6th, 2010 By: Corey
Here at Do Something Tonight we don't get the chance to review too many daytime restaurants for various drinking related reasons... But a week ago a new lunch spot opened up outside of Soho on Fort Street called "Doner Shack" and we decided to check it out. They serve one of the tastiest and most filling dishes called a "Doner Kebab" which in Turkish literally translates to: rotating roast. It's basically (in our opinion) a better version of a gyro. For those who have yet to try one, a Doner Kebab is a middle eastern dish consisting of meat, all kinds of veggies and a few special sauces all rolled burrito style into a wrap.
The meat is cooked fresh on a rotating spit and sliced off when ordered. Here is the chicken:
And the beef:
Fresh lettuce, cucumbers, tomatos, onions, and their home made hot sauce. Try a wrap with the feta cheese.
The cherry on top is the home made yogurt and garlic sauce which ties the whole thing together.
If there is one problem, its the line. This place gets insanely busy around 12pm. This is the view from the back of the line at lunch time.
This is the simple menu. We recommend the regular size Doner Wrap. It'll fill you up nicely.
This guy's name is Donald, dont hesitate to ask him for a free sample of the meat. You wont be disappointed.
I've gotten addicted to these Doner Kebabs after one taste and have been back twice in one week. Also, I have yet to meet someone who didnt fall in love with this place instantly. Matt got a little carried away too:
The Doner shack is located outside of Soho nightclub on Fort Street across from the Hawaii Theater. It's open Monday through Friday from 10am till about 3pm or whenever they run out. The Shack is also going to be open this First Friday till 2am so save some stomach room tonight, you'll be happy you did.
