Goodlife Interview February 12th, 2008 By: Do Something Tonight
Who is actually in Goodlife Entertainment?
Good Life is compromised of myself and a number of individuals that have dedicated their help and time to the success of our events and the building of Good Life from literally the ground up! It wouldn't be possible with the thousands of people that we have met from all over the world as well as our supporters here in Hawaii! Believe it or not...even those that DO NOT support us are part of the people that have helped us!
Where are you from?
I'm originally from Hawaii. Spent a lot of time out of state though. The people that help regularly are from all backgrounds. Many of them from Japan, but living in Hawaii.
Why did you name the company Goodlife Entertainment?
We thought and thought from the beginning, about what we stood for. We summed it all up with "GOOD LIFE". Positive energy is essentially what we are all about, to be brief. Everyone dreams of living the "GOOD LIFE". The "GOOD LIFE" holds different meaning's in everyone's mind, but in the end...it is what it is! Whether it's YOUR "GOOD LIFE" or OUR "GOOD LIFE", everyone's got their own idea of what it means to them.

How long have you been promoting?
We've been doing events since 2003, actually. I don't think many people know, I hate calling myself or my fam "promoters". But yes, we been doing what we do since around 2003 here in Hawaii. Previous to that, I was throwing parties at the University of Oregon while I was in college.
Why did you get into promoting?
It actually came as second nature to us, especially with our immediate surroundings being a number of international students. We just wanted to put out that vibe, and bring that FEEL GOOD feeling back to the nightlife and introduce that to our international friends, and introduce our friends and their style to our local people. This also goes for PRE-GOOD LIFE when I was in college! The University of Oregon was crazy BORING! The majority of bars around campus were 21+ or course, but ridden with Fraternity and Sorority people. Most of the local kids and international student were basically confined to their houses during the weekends. So, we started a party! It was to give the local kids and international students a place to get to know each other, and get down...without the worry of being sterotyped, or hated on.
Where was your first promotion spot?
Back at the University of Oregon....SAKURA SUSHI BAR! If anyone reading this has gone to the UO or is planning on going there....hit them up! THE FOOD THERE IS F*CKING AWESOME! Best Japanese food in town hands down! Here in Hawaii.....Classy @ Kai the Okonomiyake Restaurant on Makaloa Street
Tell us a crazy story from one of your parties.
University of Oregon...our last Sakura Saturday party...my roomate grabs a band from our house cause we were only 20 at the time. Half way through the party, he has to use to bathroom, but the restaurant is PACKED. So he runs outside into the alley to take a leak. While he's going, a cop pulls into the alley, lights flashing and highbeams on! The cop tells him to stop peeing, but he can't, he's halfways through! So the cop walks up to him....waits till he's done, and then looks at the band on his wrist! MINOR UNDER THE INFLUENCE...and WHERE DID HE COME FROM??!?!?! SO, that's a ticket for indecent exposure, a ticket for urinating in public, a ticket for "minor in possesion" and we get ticket for contributing to minor in possession! Not the best experience, but before we got the ticket, we all thought it was THE FUNNIEST THING!
What do you guys do when you're not promoting?
We are usually working...or at least I am. Through our events we've been able to start working with a number of different people both here in Hawaii and from out of State and even out of country! So that keeps me busy. Other than that.....COFFEE AT STARBUCKS! Coffee keeps me alive. I try to hang out with as many of my friends as possible and as much as possible. But I only see 2008 getting busier.
What are your drinks of choice?
Hmm....well, I don't drink....but usually at EVERY EVENT we have AT LEAST 1 BOTTLE OF GREY GOOSE on our table and someone is usually drinking from it. Usually the girls. The girls that kick it with us DRINK WAY TO MUCH! HAHAHA. Non-Alchoholic...like I said, I LIVE ON COFFEE.
Where do you see Hawaii's nightlife in 1 year?
Honestly, that is probably one of the most difficult questions for me. I've seen nightlife outside of Hawaii, and I don't see Hawaii going that way. I see things moving forward, but not quite like LA, NY, TOKYO or Vegas. Hawaii's got a style of it's own....
How does Goodlife remain so successful bridging the gap between the US and Japan?
THERE'S ONE THING EVERYONE SHOULD REMEMBER...Out there....people go to clubs to get F*CKED UP.....and HAVE A GOOD TIME, not to stand there and look pretty, or stunt in front of other guys. They are their to have fun! At our parties, that's exactly what we like....that has definitely helped. Keeping the GOOD attitude and showing everyone that they are welcome, no matter who they are. SMILING. That and a lot of hard work and politicking with all the internationals students. Many of the people I first met from Japan have become very close friends of mine. I guess it all boils down to understanding them out there. I have been extremely fortunate to meet the people I have. They are my FRIENDS...and they have introduced me and connected me to SO MANY people in SO MANY industries out there. My partner in Japan hates the word "Connetion". I hate the word "Connection". People in hawaii use that word way to much. PEOPLE, man. NOT COMPUTERS. Keeping that RELATIONSHIP with our people in Japan is what keeps our success going.
How do people get on your guest list?
WEAR PANTIES! Nah....it's very simple... GUESTLIST@GOODLIFE-ENTERTAINMENT.COM
Any upcoming special events you are doing?
This interview is super late, and it's my fault, but we just had a huge party with a night club from Japan called Xross on January 4th @ Lotus Soundbar. That was crazy. Our next Special event will be in February. In fact we have two coming up in Las Vegas during the Magic Show week with several BIG NAME DJ's from the U.S., and another at the end of the month featuring DJ JR. from Japan. He will be here at the end of the Feb. In March we are also getting another HUGE NAME DJ from Japan. AND IT'S A FEMALE! :) :) :) I'll keep you guys posted as we start confirming.
Any thing else you want to say? Shoutouts?
-KEEP YOUR MIND OPEN!
-Big respects to DJ MIKAN from Japan, and all of CLUB ASIA and CULTURE OF ASIA!
-THERE ARE WAY TO MANY PEOPLE TO THANK.......SO TO EVERYONE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT...
