Honestly I don't get how people make such a big deal about a decade. It's all arbitrary really. Why count the decades or millennia the way we do? Why not count the years by the creation of a civilization or the invention of the printing press, splitting of the atom, etc? 1/5 the world population is Chinese and they count years by different numbers and count the new year by phases of the moon.
The year is important because it is a cyclical thing measured in nature by the changing of the seasons and the sun. And despite all of our supposed advances in culture and technology, we are still bound to the earth orbiting the sun and it rules our lives. The sun, the stars, the seasons, the moon, the tides, day, nite all effect us deeply and we cannot escape those circadian rhythms no matter how hard we may try.
A decade? Whatever. We might as well be celebrating the invention of the time clock as we punch in and out every day to work. Thats all we're doing is stepping to someone else's arbitrary notion of defining time. Not that there is anything wrong with that per se- if you want to exist in this world, you gotta play by this world's rules or find a way to change or bypass the rules. But why celebrate it?... Like I said I don't ever need another excuse to celebrate life or party, Every day is my birthday, every day is the new year - every day alive is a celebration of life. But whatever, I'm not a party pooper. I'll still be out there partying too for the new year, and if people want to party harder because it is the "decade", then you know I'm always down for that.
Played hooky last night and hooky'd it over the Eddie at Waimea today. Some monster sets rolled through. Did this little panoramic stitched photo thing as I only have a super wide angle lens... Somehow I managed to catch it between sets... Click the pic below to enlarge:
