Hopefully this will answer most of your questions. I have been there for almost 9 yrs, promoting/djing/graphics/web suff, etc. Currently Z-Bar is 18 and over on the following nights:
Monday-(special events/summer promos) 18 and over
Tuesday-Latin Night,18 and over(salsa/meregue/bachatta/cumbia) free lessons, 8pm to 930pm and the music switches over at around 11pm (hiphop/r&b/top 40) average 150 to 200 people-early close:2am if it's not a holidy or unusually busy. The latin crowd does come. Djs are usually Ray Cruz/Da Lion of Judah and guest latin dj's and they do bring in authentic latin djs.
Wednesday-"Enjoy" 18 and over which featured Electronic Dance Music had it's run and a new promotion starts this week, Nugget Style has moved to Zanzabar in wake of Fashion 45's problems. The same concept/promotion. Dj's RudeDogg/Infamous Styles and Power 104.3 Go-Go Dancers also.
(hiphop/r&b/reggae/roots) Approximate Crowd:200 to 400 and more on the Holidays
Thursday-Thirsty Thursday 18 and over with Rick Rock Productions. Longest running Thursday party. Dj Wu Chang/G-Man and guest dj's. Hot go-go dancers featuring Lyz Cruz and her girls, also special guest dancers from the Mainland to include film industry ones, lol... (hiphop/r&b/oldschool/house/dance) average 400 or more depending on the event specials and holidays, but it can be near 1,000
FRIDAY-I highlight this because it is the first time we have consistenly had an 18 and over Friday night. It's called Sinsual Friday, 4th week going on the 5th week. We have a GUARANTEED $500 weekly contest that changes eevry week. We do give the cash away. We do crazy drink specials for the 21 and over. $4 Jager Bombs/$3 Crown/Wells/All Beers/$2 Coors light and usually a $99 bottle special or half price off bottle service. We do 2 Rooms, yes, the 2nd room is up again with dj's. The line started at 1015pm last week. We REALLY do 1,000 or more people. We did well over 1,000 people last week, just ask anyone who went or waited in line, the VIP/Guest Line and Regular Line were both on Kuhio and at one time down Seaside. Dj's Billy G/Yano Boy/Da Lion of Judah/Peter Lau and Power 104.3 I'm usually running all over because of the guest list and door and I play around 1am to close, main floor. There are many people involved helping with the night, including me, but we consider it in-house. There is NO DEFINED PROMOTER. The past promoters have been gone for awhile. The sudden rise in numbers is due to plain hard work and probably from all the problems other clubs are having with the Liquor Commission. average 800 to 1,200
Saturday-Strictly 21 and over. House of Isis is House of Ra now. 2 Rooms of Music, Dj's Billy G/Big John, sexy rotating go-go dancers. (hiphop/r&b/top 40/oldschool/electronic/80's) This is the longest running Saturday Night party and most consistent to date, I think 9 years now. average 800 to 1000 and more depending on special events. I've seen 1,400 plus.
Sunday-Sizzlin' Sunday with Power 104.3 Dj's Betty/Da Lion of Judah/Mike D, $100 cash dance contest, 18 and over. A couple of years running now and it's been the best Sunday hotspot to be at. (hiphop/r&b/top 40/mash/dance) Drinks specials always and they change periodically. average 400 to 1,000 if it's a holiday or special event.
As far as security, bouncers, hosts, etc. We have made some changes and continue to do so as most clubs do. We are much more STRICT on the door for ID's and what not. We do not allow over-intoxicated patrons back in or unders who drink, sorry... You have to understand that this is a 7 million dollar club and right in the heart of Waikiki. We get alot of attention so we are not willing to sacrifice our license or credibility for a few people who could cause problems and a potential lawsuit.
The club has been around the longest next to the Wave which closed not too long ago. It was formerly Maharaja and maintains it's decor and some of the original owners. No, the lease is not up and we are not having financial problems. Zanzabar is probably the most successful nightclub in the State and the longest running one. In terms of volume and by ceratin National/World magazines. I have worked in almost every nightspot to date on the Island since 1986 and although there are concerns/problems, they are being addressed. This is true with any nightclub venue. New and old, once the smoke settles and the years go by. Whether you have made it can only be established after that.
Not to self promote, but I usually do the guest list for Friday/Saturday, clsoe it at 5pm and usually off my page:
http://www.myspace.com/djbillyg or
DjBillyG01@aol.com or clubvibes.com and various other web sites. I can also be reached via cell @ 808.392.1984 or text. But, please do get me any first/last names by 5pm the day of the event. Any/All updated info can be seen there as well. If you have any questions, reach me at any of the above. We also have
www.zanzabarhawaii.com for anyone interested in A VIP package and general info, etc. Parties/VIP entrance can be obtained through me as well. So, in closing, any info or questions you might have can be answered by the above. Your best bet is to myspace me or e-mail. I also have facebook.com
Sorry for this long statement. Z-Bar also is very cautious about web sites and any advertising of it's venue, so it takes time for them to decide on whether they will use a specific tool of advertising. Thanks guys and Aloha to all.
