Description: The Rebel Underground & KTUH Presents...
FREERADICALS PROJEKT (FROM MAUI)
with KINGS OF SPADE, YOZA & SHAKTI DANCE MOVEMENT
FREERADICALS PROJEKT (funk jazz hip-hop) Conceived by guitarist/songwriter Rama Covarrubias, Freeradicals Projekt is a fusion of funk, jazz, hip-hop and soul. This new band creates grooves inspired by music such as Sly and the Family Stone, The Fugees, Jimi Hendrix, Groove Armada, and John Coltrane. Hailing from Maui, this 7 piece collective includes a turntablist, a saxophonist, a soulful lead vocalist and a wicked MC. Freeradicals Projekt makes mood-changing powerful music that uplifts the mind and the soul.
ALSO PERFOMING:
KINGS OF SPADE (urban funk/soul/blues/rock) Channeling Janis Joplin's bluesy and soulful vibe, Kings of Spade are a new generation of original psychedelic rockers. They have earned their stripes as Hawaii's leading rock group opening for Deftones, Daughtry, Mutemath, and Bon Jovi. Original song "Boys In The Band" was used in Warner Bros released film "The Utopian Society" and the title track of their first album "Crave" was used in a Roxy breast-awareness commercial. Kings of Spade have showcased at BB King Blues club on the Sunset strip, Los Angele's famed Viper Room, and just recently won 3 showcases to play during SXSW in Austin this March.
YOZA (RnB acoustic soul) The smokey tone in Yoza's voice lies somewhere in the cross between Amy Winehouse & Fiona Apple. As an accomplished singer songwriter and mult-instrumentalist, Yoza has been featured on the cover of Local magazine as well as in Flux, Real Word, and Living Local. Also in collaboration with Grammy nominated producer, Michael Ruff, Yoza is currently in the studio working on her first self-titled album and can be found singing on the JN Chevrolet commercials as well as many local venues.
SHAKTI DANCE MOVEMENT (tribal fusion bellydance) Founded by Kalae Kaina, Shakti Dance movement is an all-woman dance collective that fuses tribal belly dance with electronic music. Shakti has shared the stage with many great DJ's including David Starfire, Lorin Bassnectar, Cheb I Sabbah, Amar, and Wazulu the I'll Dravidian.
